A MUSEUM
THAT TELLS THE
FULL STORY

The River Road African American Museum exists to ensure Black history in Louisiana’s River Parishes is told accurately, completely, and from a Black perspective.

Situated in the heart of what is often called “plantation country,” RRAAM centers the lives, leadership, labor, and legacy of the African Americans who shaped this region's stories too often omitted from traditional historical narratives.

From Reconstruction-era political leadership to cultural innovation, education, medicine, and entrepreneurship, RRAAM invites visitors to see history not only as something that happened but as something that continues to shape our present and future.
