True Friend's Benevolent Society Hall
True Friend's Benevolent Society Hall is located on Lessard Street in the Donaldsonville Historic District. Restoration efforts are underway to convert the historic hall to a music academy and performance space.

The True Friend's Benevolent Society Hall stands as a reminder of the strength and stature held by the African American community of Donaldsonville. It served as a space for humanitarian aid, gathering for amusement and entertainment, as well as a meeting space for political and social change.
The hall has seen musicians the likes of Fats Domino and Plas Johnson. It is noted by historians that Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club hosted two balls there. To that note, it has served as host venue for "coming out" balls for young debutauntes.
TFBSH received its name from the benevolent society which aided in the burial and healthcare for many of its community's members. Currently restoration efforts are underway with assistance from the State of Louisiana via a $1.3 million appropriation, yet is at a Priority 5 and needs to get to a Priority 1. Upon restoration, it will serve as a mixed-use space for performance, and music education.
