Moved from Modeste Louisiana, the school served African American children in rural parishes. the school is the brainchild of Booker t. Washington financed by Julius Rosenwald.

Booker T. Washington's Rosenwald School. This school stands as one of the few remaining out of several 100s of schools build under the innovation and concept of Booker T. Washington and finaced by Julius Rosenwald of the historic Sears and Roebuck. the school is located at Williams and Lessard and sits across from the True Friend's Benevolent Society Hall. Often times, these schools served as feeder schools to Booker T. Washington's Tuskeegee University.
Our School was moved from Modeste to its current location and continues to serve as a space for education and community engagement.
From the school, visitors can lark through our Freedom Garden which addresses food scarcity and herbal medicine making.
